The new over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aid sales channel opened in the US on Monday October 17th. Retailers including Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Best Buy and others are promising customers “affordable, audiologist-quality hearing aids, customized to fit a consumer’s unique hearing profile, and professional-quality hearing checks, among other things. Many of these devices are selling for hundreds of dollars as compared to the thousands of dollars prescription devices are typically sold for. Well known consumer product companies like Sony, Bose and Apple are joining the big 5 hearing aid manufacturers in a race to bring these new products to market. J. Connon Samuel is the Chief Operating Officer of Earlens Corporation, leading the teams that manage manufacturing, quality, regulatory, program management, clinical, business intelligence, legal, HR, and the Earlens Hearing Center.  Mr. Samuel has 20 years of executive leadership experience in the hearing healthcare industry.  Prior to Earlens, he was Chief Operating Officer of Audigy Medical and Audigy Group, one of the leading and fastest growing practice development companies for Otolaryngology, Neurotology, and Audiology private practices. Additionally, Mr. Samuel spent 10 years in the high-tech telecom and data communications industry in different executive and management roles.  He began his career as a structural engineer working on ride design and infrastructure projects at Universal Studios Orlando and Walt Disney World.  He has an MBA from University of Denver and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from University of Central Florida.  Lastly, he is delighted to be an Earlens patient.
